Dr. Marcia graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. After graduation, she practiced conventional/allopathic medicine in Houston, Texas. After practicing for 5 years, she began to realize that vaccines and drug therapy did not hold the keys to health for her patients and began to search for true healing methods. She studied Acupuncture through The International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and obtained certification in 2003. She studied equine osteopathy with Dr. Janek Vluggen, www.vluggeninstitute.com, one of the founders of the European equine osteopathic movement. Her true calling was found when she attended The Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy’s annual meeting in Miami in 2006. In 2007, She left her Houston practice to join The Center for Holistic Medicine at Calusa Veterinary Center in Boca Raton, (www.cvcboca.com) Florida where she is able to dedicate herself to alternative medicine on a full time basis. After 3 years working at Calusa Veterinary Center, Dr. Marcia’s family decided to relocate to Mobile, Alabama, close to extended family. She continues her Florida Practice through phone consultations and monthly visits. While in South Florida, she currently works out of Boca Teeca Animal Hospital. She is available for housecall visits in and around the Mobile area. Dr. Marcia has completed The Professional Course in Veterinary homeopathy taught by Dr. Richard Pitcairn, www.drpitcairn.com and is an active member of The Academy of Veterinay Homeopathy www.theavh.org.

I would love to and I am sure my colleague Anthony Krawitz would be interested also. I will be in touch
Dr. Marcia,
Thank you so much for posting the report from NBC News Los Angeles. Also, thanks for taking a strong (and courageous) position on the use of flea and tick products containing pesticide ingredients like pyrethrins and synthetic pyrethroids (phenothrin). Many veterinarians, toxicologists and neurologists are not willing to speak up although they are also fully aware of the dangers. I admire your courage knowing full well that the manufacturers will do everything they can to discount your opinion.
Our perfectly healthy six year old Scottish Terrier was killed by one of these topical spot-on’s containing a high volume of phenothrin, a synthetic pyrethroid…I didn’t know anything about this subject or this industry until his death. What I’ve learned is that these manufacturers care only about revenue…and will come down with their full resources to prevent public knowledge. The EPA does not act until after the fact–when the body count reaches a certain level, and it has to be substantial, they act, as they did in 2005 with the Cancellation Order of Hartz Mountain’s cat and kitten flea and tick product(s).
Thank you again, Dr. Marcia, for standing up on behalf of pets and families.
Rich, I am so sorry for you needless loss. Unfortunately most drug companies are in it for the profit and not for the welfare of the public or their pets.
We used those products 20 years ago, when that was all that was available and we saw so many problems with them. Organophosphate toxicity was a common presenting complaint in both my regular practice and the ER where I worked. Since the advent of safer products, we don’t see as many of these cases but they still occur.
Of course anytime you can avoid putting any chemicals directly on your pet you should. Treating fleas should focus on environmental control where the majority of the fleas reside.
Please contact me with an email contact so I can stay in touch with your articles and vet care
I love your site. Keep it up !
I love your thoughts and honesty. Keep up the good work!
Honesty and a complete lack of the politically correct gene..lol
May I have a mailing address so we can send information about our 13th Annual Summer Seminar in Florida?
Hi Dr. Marcia – Linné (Nina’s Mom) here – and just found your blog! Great site – miss you in Texas! Nina is doing great – still much more social than when you first met her – she is still a bit obsessive but not like the crazy puppymill girl you met so many years ago! We love her and thank you for your help!
All TX Dachshund Rescue
Oh, thanks so much, I miss everyone in Houston too!. And I have a special place in my heart for the dachshunds.
Hi- help needed! I have a patient who has a doxie who appears to have had a stroke, the back legs are paralyzed from the waist down, still continent, dragging the rear legs, the family is looking for a refurbished wheelchair or some adaptive device to help out at this time, to help with him going outside so his legs don’t get scraped up….(my internet is down, so call Robin, and she can give you my phone number, so I don’t have to post it here…)…if there is a cost, I will be able to write a grant to cover it, but donations are greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Beth
How long ago did this happen.. if recent we may have a chance to return him to full function….
Hi Dr. Marcia. I’m a holistic dog care author, fellow blogger (Truth4Dogs.com) and activist against over-vaccination. I’m also a big supporter of the Rabies Challenge Fund. I hope you’ll stop by my blog and comment sometimes. I have a number of in-depth vaccination articles. You can link your comment to your blog.
I wonder if you’d also be interested in adding your opinion to my articles from time to time, as have my friends Drs. Jean Hofve, Stephen Blake, Patricia Jordan, Margo Roman and others.
I’m enjoying your blog. Thanks for your efforts regarding the issue of vaccination.
Hi Jan,
I have of course heard of you and your work!.. I will try and stop by your blog soon. I have a hard time believing that people are still vaccinating yearly in spite of the evidence against it.
